Skin Tone Study

Up until recently when doing the skin of characters with markers I've been doing pretty much the same skin shades for everyone. More or less because in the past I didn't have skin coloured markers, so in using pencil crayons some of the darker shading I used didn't really show up. So they all looked the same.

Finding a good flesh tone marker is hard. Some cases they are too brown, other too pink or orange. I currenly have three different markers (two ZiG and one faber-castell) for doing skin. And I thought I'd do a picture using all three shades to see how it would look.

I chose Zangulus, Martina and Lina from Slayers to do this attempt because these three characters for the most part have varrying skin tones. Zangulus is dark, Martina is very light and Lina is somewhere inbetween. I don't know if it looks good or not (Lina's shade is a tad too pink, and Martina could be lighter) but it's the best I can manage with what I've got.

I've got my eye on some new marker shades, but my funds are lacking at the moment. Soon hopefully I will get better choices.

So does it look terrible? (the shades I mean, yes my artwork leaves something to be desired...)

Oh and the reason why Martina looks angry/annoyed is because Lina got inbetween her and her Zangulus. ^_~
